System-oriented spatial simulations for sustainable urban planning
- Many societal and ecological challenges of the \(21^{st}\) century are characterized by complex interconnected feedback mechanisms. Systemic simulations provide a suitable tool for tackling this complexity and assessing alternative planning measures. Most of these simulations require great volumes of data input, intensive data preparation or programming skills and have a technical focus rather than regarding citizens' contention. As a result, these simulations are seldom practically applied in planning processes. This thesis aims to investigate methodologic synergies between (1) mixed methods for measuring spatial attractiveness as a benchmark for simulations, (2) automatically integrating mixed data from various data sources for cross-scale analysis and (3) integrating mixed modelling with the gamification approach. As a result, an easy-to-use platform for spatial simulations of urban systems (SimUSys) was developed which is practically applicable to planning processes.
