Development of a BIM-compliant web application for managing municipal infrastructure networks

  • As part of the increasing focus on sustainability, construction projects are coming under increasing attention, particularly with regard to their material flows and resource consumption. In addition, the significant investment backlog in public infrastructures requires the implementation of simple asset information management (AIM) and infrastructure optimization strategies. These approaches aim to maximize the efficiency and sustainability of limited resources, especially at the infrastructure network level. The developed application integrates the building information modeling (BIM) method and relates to existing digitization efforts in municipal processes. After evaluating and comparing different technologies in terms of applicability and functionality, the system architecture, data requirements and user guidance are defined. For this purpose, the application uses publicly available geodata and common customized data from existing municipal structures as data sources. The main objective is to combine these different data sources, facilitate the specification and manipulation of infrastructure data, and provide a user-friendly interface for accessing integrated information. The result is a first prototype of a digital platform for the exchange of municipal infrastructure data, which forms the basis for a BIM process. This platform has the potential to digitize other construction-related processes in municipalities and thus to optimize and expand them.
