Ordered mesoporous materials

  • The present work is concerned with three important aspects of ordered mesoporous materials: 1. the removal of the liquid crystal template employed, 2. the framework structure and composition, and 3. the morphology of mesoporous silica fibers. The removal of the template by calcination is studied by combining high temperature X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, differential thermal analysis and mass spectrometry, allowing \(\textit {in situ}\) investigations. Comparison is made between materials based on silica, titania and zirconia. The synthesis of the first porous mesostructured zirconium oxo-phosphate with cubic (IaOd) symmetry is presented. The effects of alcohols and amines as co-surfactants on the mesoscopic ordering of mesoporous silica are described. The internal circular structure revealed for spontaneously grown mesoporous silica fibers is generalized, and detailed characterization and kinetic studies are provided.
