• Die Arbeit behandelt die Biographie und das türkische Musikwerk Ruhi Sus (1912-1985). Anlaß war die Mitarbeit des Verfassers in Sus Chor und die umfassende Kenntnis von Musikern, Freunden und Familienmitgliedern. Dieser Umstand brachte eine Fülle mündlicher Information hervor. Su war ein Revolutionär, der eine Synthese von Volksmusik und moderner europäischer Musik vollzog. Seine Sammlung und Interpretation der Türküs, die er aus dem Volk nahm und in einem an europäischen Gesang geschulten Stil vortrug, machten ihn auch bei Intellektuellen beliebt. Er schuf oppositionelle Musik und kam in politische Konflikte mit Konservativen. Gefängnis und Berufsverbote hinderten ihn nicht, eine Identifikationsfigur der Linken zu bleiben. Politische Repressionen brachten ihn in den Medien zum Schweigen, das bis auf den heutigen Tag anhält. Als einer der wichtigsten Erneuerer der Volksmusik, als Künstler und damit eine Gestalt von großer kultureller Bedeutung wirkt er freilich fort.
• This study deals with the biography and simultaneously the musical oeuvre of Ruhi Su (1912 – 1985). Motivation came from the author’s membership in Su’s Turkish choir and hence wide familiarity with musicians, friends and members of Su’s family. Such privileged situation produced a wealth of oral information. Su was a revolutionary who forged a synthesis of Turkish folk music and modern European music. His collecting and interpreting of Türküs, which he took from the common man and performed in a style schooled by European singing, made him popular with intellectuals, too. He created oppositional music and came into political conflict with conservatives. Prison and professional bans did not hinder him from remaining of figure of identification for the left. Political repression has silenced him in the media to this day. As one of the most important innovators of folk music, as artist and figure of great cultural stature, however, he remains seminal.
