Risk assessment for threats posed by cryptographically relevant quantum computers
- Advances in quantum computing pose a threat to cryptographic schemes deployed in vehicles. However, it remains uncertain when and under which circumstances quantum computing capabilities sufficient to realize this threat might become available to adversaries. Organizations are urged to explore and implement adequate reactions early. Part of this process is to build an inventory of cryptosystems in use and to evaluate them in terms of criticality to overall system security. To facilitate this process, we explore an approach to using the Modular Risk Assessment (MoRA) method to model risks that stem from the ongoing development of quantum computers while discussing necessary changes and challenges that may be encountered in a set assessment model.
